Abandoned Saw Mill, Outside Houma, LA

Agent PERCY quietly slipped through the woods. He parted the tree branches. About 10 yards in front of him was the side wall of a saw mill, light bleeding from the high windows. At the corner off to PERCY's left was a man armed with an AR-15 assault rifle. Two men walked around the corner to PERCY's left. One was carrying and AR-15, the other — wearing a Budweiser baseball cap — had a hunting rifle.

PERCY shifted along the wood line. Something under his foot cracked. The guy in the Bud hat cocked his head and turned toward the wood line. As he did so, he started to raise his rifle.

PERCY raised his Heckler & Koch MP5 submachine gun.

The agents burst from the storage room. MURPHY was first, with his shotgun. He fired. The Mullet's face exploded from the blast. MICHAEL and MAYA fired from the relative safety of the doorway. MICHAEL shot the nearest man carrying a crate. He collapsed. MAYA shot the Shaved Head man, wounding him.

MAYA heard automatic weapon fire outside. Before she could react, Shaved Head and the other two men pulled out pistols. Shaved Head and one of the men were beind crates. MURPHY fired at the third man, who was running for cover. Shaved Head and the second man hit MURPHY, one bullet striking his arm and the second grazing his ribs. MURPHY dove for cover as MICHAEL and MAYA fired back. MICHAEL killed the third man. That left Shaved Head and one other, behind the crates.

MAYA heard more automatic weapon fire.

Bud Cap raised his rifle and swung it toward PERCY. Too late. PERCY fired a long burst from his MP5, cutting down the two AR-15-armed guards, and wounding Bud Cap. The rifle went off, but the shot was high. PERCY squeezed off a short burst into Bud Cap's chest. Bud Cap fell back against the wall and slithered down, leaving a blood trail behind him.

Shots erupted from inside the sawmill.

PERCY checked to make sure they were corpses, then he padded back the way Bud Cap and the other guard came from. He carefully rounded the corner. Agents MAYA and MICHAEL were firing from a doorway. He saw MURPHY stand up and blast a man with a shaved head, who in turn was firing at MURPHY. The man with the shaved head collapsed.

At that moment the door to an office swung wide and another man with an AR-15 ran out. He was running right across the sawmill floor for the far wall. He fired the AR-15, on full automatic, but his shots were just wide of Agent MURPHY. PERCY couldn't see anything in the path the man was taking, except for a wooden board propped up against the wall.

PERCY aimed his MP5, leading the man as he ran.

MAYA and MICHAEL fired at the last man behind the crates. Bullets splintered the crate, but he was unharmed. One of the man's bullets crashed through the fleshy part of MICHAEL's left arm. He let out a curse and fired back.

The door to the office crashes open. A man with an AR-15 dashes out. He fires wildly as he runs for the far wall, but his bullets still come very close to Agent MURPHY. MURPHY fires at him but misses. MICHAEL and MAYA fire at the guy behind the crates.

Suddenly a burst of submachine gun fire erupts from the entrance to the sawmill. The shooter was a tall African-American man in dark clothing. The man's bullets slammed into the guy with the AR-15. The guy fell to the floor, leaving a bloody streak. MURPHY looked back at the black man, but he disappeared out the door. Was he a threat? They were shooting at white supremacists. MURPHY decided that it was unlikely that a black man was in league with Chilvers and his crowd. He was probably a "good guy", though he had no idea who he was.

The last white supremacist fired back at MICHAEL. MAYA and MICHAEL shot back. MICHAEL's shot hit the man in the neck. The man clutched at his throat and fell back behind the crate.

MURPHY and MAYA noticed movement in the office. There was still someone in there! They ran for the office.

PERCY decided to get out of any potential cross fire. He ran around the building to the supply room door. It was locked. He kicked it in. MICHAEL turned around and aimed his weapon toward PERCY, though PERCY thought it unlikely he could see him well in the dark.

"I'm a little "green" here!" yelled MICHAEL.

"I'm black!" yelled back PERCY.

"I mean, I'm Delta Green! I'm Agent MICHAEL!"

"I'm Agent PERCY." PERCY stepped forward.

MICHAEL sized him up, and the weapon he carried, and nodded. "Why are you here?"

Before PERCY could answer, shots rang out from the office.

* * *

MURPHY and MAYA ran into the office. The office was lit from above by florescent tubes. They heard some starnge muttering off to their left.

The man they recognized from the video, Buddy Chilvers, ran from behind a table and head long toward the wall. He had some things in his hands, but they couldn't make it out. MURPHY and MAYA shot at him, but missed. Chilvers ran into the wall... and disappeared.

MAYA rushed up to the wall. There were strange squiggles on it. It was an interdimensional gate.

Someone was muttering nearby. "If you put the book back, I will continue to read," it said, in a soft, disembodied, not-quite-lucid voice. "I will read with the book there, but I need the book to read. I don't see the book, kindly replace the book and I will read..."

MURPHY and MAYA turned to look at the table. On the table was a laptop and an odd-looking scanner. Beside the scanner was a stack of papers. Beside the laptop was an empty stand for holding a large book. In front of the stand, facing where the book should have been, was a decapitated head.

The head was in a dish of liquid. Tubes stuck out of the base of the head, near the stump of a neck, and into the liquid. The head's eyes were opening. It was muttering. The head was still alive.

MAYA and MURPHY reoiled a step, involuntarily. MICHAEL and PERCY joined them, and looked over their shoulders. "What is that?" asked PERCY.

Without answering, MAYA picked up the head and pulled it from the dish, and dropped it on the table. MURPHY picked it up and threw it against the wall. The head made a sickening crunch as it bounced off the wall and hit the floor. It stopped talking.
